How counting works (quick)
- Starch: 1 exchange ≈ 15 g carbohydrate, ~80 kcal. “Prepared with fat” items add +1 fat exchange per serving.
- Fruit: 1 exchange ≈ 15 g carbohydrate, ~60 kcal.
- Vegetable: 1 exchange ≈ 5 g carbohydrate, ~25 kcal.
- Milk: 1 exchange ≈ 12 g carbohydrate + 8 g protein; calories vary by type.
- Protein: lean/medium/high-fat protein exchanges use common exchange macros.
- Fat: 1 exchange ≈ 5 g fat, ~45 kcal.
